Mentorship
Mentoring offers a host of benefits for both the mentor and mentee. It allows for a symbiotic relationship in which participants have the ability to feed from one another as well as teach transferable skills that will stay with them for a lifetime. Kevin realizes the importance of mentorship in our community and as your City Councilman, he will fight to fund efforts that will provide young people with skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
Black History
Communities of color are facing a battle on two fronts: the fight against COVID-19 and decades of fighting for justice and equality since our nation’s birth. As protests have raged across the country to bring awareness to racial injustices and police brutality, we have more work to do to bring an end to these problems. Kevin will advocate for the addition of a substantial black history curriculum in our public schools. Kevin will be a staunch advocate for Black History in the textbooks and will demand educators make Black History an integral part of the curriculum.
Financial Literacy
Financial literacy is a skill set sorely needed by our young. From student loans to credit cards, young people need help understanding the complexities of wealth, credit, loans and so much more. Kevin will invest in teaching our youth about money, stocks and bonds, credit cards utilization and how to apply for loans. This will promote and sustain generational wealth within our communities.
Entrepreneurship & Trade School Option
We are seeing many young adults not choose college because of the student loan debt associated with higher education. By adding more entrepreneurship and trade programs to NYC’s high school curriculum, our youth will be prepared for the real world, having access to various options that will set them up for future successes.
Physical Education
With many schools not having access to gymnasiums, Kevin will continue to fight for our children to have the adequate resources they deserve to kick off their life in the right direction. Great health is not a sprint it’s a marathon, and the journey begins when our children are young.
